THIS IS PART OF A SPECIAL SERIES CALLED COMMUNITY CULTURE SERIES, IT IS POST-FRIENDLY FERMENTS FESTIVAL AND IS PRESENTED BY THE LIGHT CELLAR.
Who wouldn't want to drink up a magenta-coloured earthy beverage? When you see the beauty that the beets impart on this earthy tonic, your eyes and heart will sing out loud. Beets are a liver-loving food, so fermenting them and turning them into a drink? Well now we're talking blood purifying, detox-facilitating and kidney-supporting superpowers. Bring on the Beet Kvass. (And by the by, 'kvass' is Russian for 'beverage'.) It's the original sports drink. Oh yes, this tonic is fermented, meaning it boosts the mineral and vitamin content of these nutritional powerhouses, releases beneficial acids, food enzymes and those all-important B vitamins and more good bugs, contributing to improved intestinal health and lowering overall inflammation. See? Didn't I tell you this drink was a powerhouse?
This class is part of the series that will be presented by THE LIGHT CELLAR following their fabulous Fermentation Festival mid-October. This beet kvass class I will be leading will be coupled with a kimchi class on the same evening, a class led by local lovely Evonne Smulders; to attend the one night, the ticket cost is $50 per person for both classes. For full details and ticket purchase for the one class for October 22nd, head to The Light Cellar's site here.
As this is the first of five nights of classes focusing on the local fermenting scene in Calgary, why not make a go of it and attend each class for a mere $14.90 each? That means 5 Thursdays, 10 classes (so 2 per night) for $149 total. It's an incredible deal! And the series is offering a wide array of ferments and a chance to connect with those leading the fermenting scene around town.
